Frequently Asked Questions
If you’re new to using a long arm quilter to finish your quilt or just have some questions, here are some frequently asked questions to look over.
Why is sending my own batting not recommended?
Batting that is pre-packaged, like something you might buy from Joann’s or Amazon, is problematic when used on a longarm machine. It is folded tightly which causes stretched parts, ripples and folds. It’s very difficult to use when loaded on a longarm machine because there is no hard surface to help flatten the batting. The stretched ripples and hard wrinkles add risk factors to how your finished quilt will turn out.
pre-packaged batting is also not the exact width measurements needed for your specific quilt. If the batting is larger than the quilt back, it makes it much harder to work with. Having batting cut the correct width for your quilt is important.
If you have batting on the roll at home, that is a much better option. You can cut it to the specifications of your quilt and it won’t have the folded and stretched issues of a pre-packaged batting.
You can always open your pre-packaged batting, cut and iron it to see if that helps BEFORE sending it. If I need to cut and press batting, there will be an additional charge.
How big should my backing be?
Please make sure your backing is a minimum of 8 inches larger than your quilt top. (4 inches on each side) This is necessary for loading your quilt onto our machines. If your backing isn’t quite big enough, talk to us about it and we’ll figure it out.
If your backing is sent in too small, we may need to sew leaders onto it so it can be loaded and quilted properly. If we have to sew leaders onto your backing there is a $10 fee.
Do you prep my binding for me? Or should I have it prepped?
We prefer to prep it for you. Please just send yardage and we will get your binding prepped and finished for you.
Which source do you use for shipping?
We use USPS for all our return shipping.
We always try to make sure it’s the lowest price for you, and we always pay to insure your package.
If I’m local to you, can I drop off my quilt rather than ship it to you?
Yes you can! Once you’ve filled out your form you will get an email with our address, as well as our phone number to setup a time to drop off/pick up.
We usually do contactless pickup/drop off by leaving a bin on our porch for you, but if you’d like to talk to us in person about your quilt and your vision for it we’re happy to do that!
Do you have a minimum quilting fee?
Yes. If your quilt is smaller than 50x50 inches there is a minimum cost of $50. This is because it still takes time to load your quilt and get the computer setup.
The minimum fee for custom quilting is $100
How do i pay for your service?
Once your quilt is finished we will send you an invoice through PayPal, so keep an eye out for it in your email inbox.
Do you rush quilts? If so what is the rush fee?
We can accommodate rush quilts. Anything expected to be finished and shipped back within 1 week of receiving the quilt is considered rushed.
The rush fee is $25
Do you make quilts to sell? Or do commission work?
Occasionally I have posted my personal work for sale on my Instagram page, but that’s about it.
Where do I send my quilt?
We are located near Salt Lake City, Utah. Once you’ve filled out your quilt form we will email you our shipping address.
